The UAE still knows how to treat UK nationals. Qatar is no place for multinationals. What can they be thinking of?
Replies
Soon the UAE and other Arab countries will follow the Qatari move to even ban some Europeans and others from entering their countries

UK and other Westerners should be treated as Qataris are treated in Europe and the US. I encourage other Gulf countries to do the same.

Well, they could be thinking that you boys think you're all that! or they could be thinking quid pro quo, i.e. do unto others as they do unto us kinda logic, or they could be thinking it's gone too far...with the dubai hit on the palestinian dude where all the hitters had uk passports... or that the uk just gave the hitter's "country" of origin a slap on the wrist... they could be thinking a many number of things, which you'll never understand.. so, get with the program peter... and slap a smile on your face... enjoy qatar...

Can anybody say WHY this is being done?

Presumably to get back at the visa requirements for Qatar nationals traveling the world. Not that the world will care too much or be inclined to drop its paranoia about terrorism. It will be Qatar that loses out as obtaining visas will put off visitors unless they have to come. Shame as so much is being spent to improve Qatar. Looks like somebody has taken action without considering the real consequences. Other rival Gulf States will laugh at this. But surely GCC expats with residency will be allowed in?

Give me a break Peter. How much money did Westerners invest in the region? Not much!
What I know for a fact that most Westerners are here to make money and leave, and not to live and die here!
If it was not for money most will not be here.
So who’s loss is it?

This is one way to prevent the Mossad from using Qatar as their play ground. It seems European, Australian and Canadian passports can be forged quite easily without being punished and Qatar doesn't want to see another 30 Mossad agents roaming its streets on a man hunt.
And Qatar is not alone; Saudi Arabia does require all visitors to get an invitation letter and a visa before entering their country.

Although I'm a US citizen by naturalization, I agree with you that we don't want our cities to be Mossad's playground made possible by forging western passports. Another aspect of issue is to look at how those Western countries whose passports were forged react to Israel. For example, if the US does not act, then I say every country in the planet should require prior visa for US citizens before entering a country.

I don't think anybody would argue with this in principle, it is simply a matter of what is practical and in that regard Qatar is definitely damaging its own interests here, see:

"It is unrealistic to expect Western nations to abandon their paranoia about terrorism from the Middle East??"....how come ????why does the Majority of the world have to get a visa and a handful dont ???besides...they can plan and organise in advance....that's what they ate SUPPOSSED to be good at !!!

The actions of some Western Nations, mainly US and UK towards nationals from Middle East Countries are insulting. They want only the resources of the Arab World. Their attitude towards Arab countries is clearly visible from their actions, after the assassination of Hamas leader in Dubai by Mossad agents with forged Western passports. They did nothing against Israel. What would be their attitude, if any Arab Country forge their passport and kill some one in their country. All Arab Countries must follow this example.

Why would the west come to the GCC?? is for tourism?!! NO, its simply Business. So should they chase after business, I guess they should chase after a visa. Just like GCC nationals chase after a visa to travel to the UK, EU and US. On the other hand, the previous terrorism event in Dubai, proved that the Arab world is not the only home of terrorism but the whole world is!!! Westerns its time that you wake up to see the reality...

I have checked with various authorities in Qatar and their reply was that nothing is changes. No one was able to comment the news. What is the source of this news?!
There is no such thing as European passport. Europe contains different countries with very different cultures and languages. I find this term even insulting.
All these countries have different passports. There are countries that use the newest technologies and identification systems and countries that might be not that developed yet. Unfortunately criminals as well can use the higest technologies on these days and there are probably no passport in the world that they wouldnt be able to fake.

The truth is that visitors to Qatar and other GCC countries comes for business they are looking for and not fun so they should plan for their trip as they request others to do before visiting there countries.
The Mossad action prove that such countries do not respect there passports and allow Israel to play with it and they just only cover it by saying it was fake passport.

The Qatar Government issued a statement last week! Yes there is a common European Union passport - we all have one and that is the problem. It is an EU directive that requires visas from the GCC and individual EU states cannot opt out, even if they want to.
As a Dubai freelance journalist this decision by Qatar will effectively stop me from visiting Qatar as I have no local partner to invite me, and not all news events can be planned in advance. I cannot see why the Qatar authorities have suddenly done this now. It is a poor decision for business and the national image.

Can you imagine how the EU insulting us we The Arabs?.
Iam a Syrian national married to a Romanian woman, we live in Syria ,I wanted once to visit my parents in low in Romania and the Romanian embassy in Damascus asked me a bank account , a medical insurance contract, a plain ticket two ways and a job document and a home ownership certificate and one month period to grant me a visa for Romania. and when I asked why all these ? they said it`s an EU regulation.
I canceled my visit and my wife asked me to apply for a Syrian citizenship since she is more than 2 years in Syria .

The insults is not restricted to Arab Muslims only. Some of the Muslim actors from my country India also experienced humiliations from US authorities when they arrived in US. Last year our former President of India Dr.A .P.J.Abdul Kalam was frisked by Continental Airlines of US. US and Its NATO friends are in fool's Paradise, if they think these kinds of insults would save their countries from all terrorist attacks. Their aggressive policies and actions are making this World less safer. But they put all the blames on Arabs. It is pity, that only the President changed in the White House, not policies.

There is a reference on the UK Embassy web page of the UK Embassy in Qatar, but no mention of any new visa regs on the Qatar Embassy in London.
Can Zawya or another authority please confirm or deny this, as it makes a material difference to immediate travel plans.
Thanks.

When you enter into a building with lot of mirrors on every wall and corner and just smile, you will receive lot of smiling faces on you. When you are entering with ugly face, you will be received by thousands of ugly faces. Then think of the news what happened about this Visa regulation in Qatar

Except when you visit a western country ,where you are considered a terrorist or a criminal thief of the European welfare.
Whatever you smile the policeman that checking your passport will make you nervous and ugly and feel humiliated because you belong to the 3 rd world countries. He wants to show you that you are a 3rd class human, and this is their policy not a fear from terrorism or being Al qaeda member. It`s a program made by the west and their alley ,nobody knows what the real aim of it.
