Over 30 million Mobinil subscribers to enjoy high-speed internet services with flexible billing options

Mobinil will modernize the mobile backhaul by increasing microwave capacity and migrate to packet technologies

Mobinil to utilize Ericsson's operations and business support systems

Growing consumer demand for mobile connectivity in Egypt has resulted in a new agreement between Mobinil and Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) whereby Ericsson will modernize Mobinil's network to cater for extremely high speed internet services and provide its subscribers with the latest mobile broadband and internet offerings with flexible billing options through Ericsson solutions.

Yves Gauthier, CEO Mobinil, says, "Since launching in 1998, we have strived to maintain our position as the leading mobile service operator in Egypt and honored the trust of more than 30 million subscribers. With the help of Ericsson we are now positioned to introduce the latest services and innovative solutions that cater for the diverse and quickly evolving needs of Egyptian users."

The deal will see Mobinil utilize Ericsson's operations and business support systems (OSS/BSS), which include IT transformation, customer management and revenue management. The deal also includes design, installation, and integration of the microwave backhaul by using MINI-LINK TN and MINI-LINK CN, which supports high capacity and a cost efficient migration to packet transport. This combination will ensure that Mobinil is positioned to provide the best possible experience to its customers and to be prepared to provide new and innovative technologies and services as they become available.

Yasser Shaker, Mobinil technology VP commented: "This collaboration with Ericsson, a leader in telecom services and solutions, will enable us to continue to provide the best services to our customers. We continue to be committed to maintaining our leadership in quality mobile services in Egypt."

Isil Yalcin, President Ericsson North East Africa, says: "Egypt has seen a tremendous amount of growth in the communications market over the past few years and demands for a seamless broadband experience have increased. We are committed to working with Mobinil to provide them with tailored and adaptable solutions that support them in their quest to offer the best possible experience to subscribers, and we look forward to further cooperation with Mobinil in the future."

Ericsson has a longstanding presence in Egypt that dates back 115 years to 1897 when the company installed its first telephone exchange in Alexandria. During this time Ericsson has contributed significantly to the growth of Egypt's telecommunications sector and continues to maintain a strong presence in the country.
