First-of-its-kind event explores how 'big data' can transform organizations
Terracotta Inc., a leading developer of in-memory technology and a wholly-owned subsidiary of enterprise software specialist Software AG, lent its full support to the Big Data Symposium held today (May 20, 2013) at the Habtoor Grand in Dubai. The symposium marked the first time an event was organized in the Middle East with the sole purpose of gathering CIOs, senior IT executives and experts to discuss the potential of 'big data' to transform organizations.
'Big Data' - also known as 'enterprise big data' to the business community - is regarded by Software AG as one of the Four Forces redefining enterprise management along with Mobility, Social Media and Cloud Computing. An estimated 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are believed to be generated daily, with the world currently holding around 4 zettabytes or 1,000 exabytes of information to date.
Terracotta, the developer of BigMemoryMAX, the world's premier distributed in-memory management solution, was a major sponsor of the symposium. BigMemoryMAX enables all data - up to hundreds of terabytes - instantly available in RAM, distributed across any size of server array. Software AG aims to make Terracotta's solid memory management portfolio form the foundation of its in-memory and cloud offerings. During its participation in the event's panel session, Terracotta emphasized the need to create impactful solutions that can keep up with the dramatic growth of enterprise data.
"The Big Data Symposium served as a unique platform for organizations in the Middle East region to learn more about innovative solutions that can help them to access and to leverage quickly and efficiently the vast amount of data that they have been accumulating through several channels. It is clear, for organizations to compete more effectively in global markets they need to invest in the right solution that will help offer them instant access to ALL of their data. The BigMemory solution from Terracotta is uniquely positioned to enable companies to access 100s of TBs--or more--in real time. Nothing else goes this big and this fast!" said Nicky Sheridan, Senior Vice President - Middle East, Africa and Turkey, Software AG".
Terracotta Inc. was acquired by Software AG in 2011 as part of efforts to develop advanced technology solutions capable of managing vast amounts of data more efficiently and cost-effectively. With its in-memory data access solutions supporting up to 1,000 times faster processing than database access, Terracotta will enable Software AG to support existing and new customers with significantly larger Business Process Excellence projects.
