AD1.5 b.- infrastructure development projects approved

Abu Dhabi Emirates Executive Council approved a set of vital infrastructure development projects covering various parts of the Emirate with a total value of more than AED 1.5 billion (US$ 407 million).
The Council's decisions were taken during a meeting on Wednesday chaired by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council.
The projects include among others, infrastructure work at Khalifa City (A) valued at AED 396 million. The project aims to keep pace with the population growth in the area by meeting the increasing need for more housing units and by providing a high quality of life.
Another project is the AED 712 million, Sheibat Alwatah housing project at Al Ain city which will be completed over a period of 28 months. It includes constructing roads, street lighting, building sewerage and rain water drainage networks, telecommunications services and greening the side roads.
The Council also endorsed the 80km Zayed City- Ghayathi highway road project with a total cost of AED267.5 million. The one-lane road will be redesigned with two lanes to ensure more safety.
The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi was also authorized to refer a tender to a contracting company to improve public facilities at new Abu Dhabi bus depot at a total cost of AED 175.8 million.
The project, located at Khalifa City (A) includes establishing a main bus depot that can accommodate around 480 buses. A fuel station, car washing facilitiers and a maintenance workshop accommodating 550 buses will also be set up.
Meanwhile, the Council members approved costs of contracts concluded with Museums to establish cultural institutions at Al Saadiyat Island. These include: Sheikh Zayed National Museum, Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi, and Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi. The three facilities are expected to be completed by the year 2017.
Part of the Council's session was devoted to discussing the Abu Dhabi government's continuous initiatives geared to improving customer services in a way that is aligned with government priorities. To that end, the Council looked into the "Mystery Shopper" Programme launched by the government to provide accurate and realistic information about customer services. The periodical reports submitted by the programme help the government to identify points of strength and areas that need to be developed in various work sectors.
