Eng. Jabir Ahmed Abdullah, Head of Buildings Inspection Section of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality said that based on the directives of Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, the department has formed a special committee to ensure the conformity of hotel and apartment buildings with its original approved plans.

The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of buildings, inhabitants and preservation the approved building regulations as well as the aesthetic view of the emirate of Dubai.

According to Jabir, number of hotel buildings in the emirate totalled at 599 in 2012 and the committee has played a big role in correcting the violations of 92 hotels during 2012 as such violations adversely impact on the safety of dwellers and services provided to them.

Normally two types of violations are very common. The first is violation of changing the use of facilities, which totalled 1,264 cases during last period affecting the basic services such as parking, service rooms for gym, balconies, telephone and watchman room. The second one is violation of additional works without permission totalling 790 cases in the same period which may cause hazards such as fire and threat to public safety.

Jabir praised the cooperation of building owners in correcting the violations as soon as they received the notifications. He also urged all owners to cooperate with the civic body in its duty in making the city of Dubai the best place to live in the world.
