The Building Department of Dubai Municipality has recently cancelled the license of an engineering consultancy office in Dubai due to its noncompliance with the legal requirements set by the civic body and breach of agreement concluded with one of its clients.

Eng. Abdullah Rafia, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality said that this action comes to confirm the importance of complying with the rules and regulations issued by the municipality in order to ensure the safety of engineering and constructions works in the emirate of Dubai.

The license is permanently withdrawn as the company clearly violated the rules and regulations and breached the contract with its client by subcontracting without the knowledge of the owner and failed to meet the basic requirements of the construction sites such as safety of workers, availability of facilities and cleanliness of site.

The action is taken in accordance with the local order 89 of 1994 regulating the activities of engineering consultancy and contracting companies in the emirate of Dubai based on the complaints by the owner and the contracting companies involved in the project regarding the violations in addition to a number of occupational accidents as a result of negligence after receiving several notifications from the owner and civic body.

Eng. Yusuf Abdullah, Acting Director of Buildings department said the department strictly monitors 550 engineering consultancy offices and 4,300 contracting companies in the emirate of Dubai registered with its e-registration system. The companies that successfully complete requirements and meet specifications will only get the approval of Municipality. The eligibility to practice engineering consultancy and contracting works has been tested in line with the international standards and specifications.

Yousuf urged all companies to update their data with DM's e-registrations system in case of any change made in activities and other details required for registration to avoid any legal action for not updating the information.

'Now the updating data is made easy as it is a simple process that can be done online within few minutes through the DM portal www.dm.gov', he added.
