Dubai Municipality has won the best innovative technology award for its solar irrigation system implemented in roundabouts on Dubai roads.
It was announced in the recently concluded Middle East Electricity Award distribution ceremony held at World Trade Centre Dubai, which was attended by more than one thousand personalities who represent major players in the field.
On the occasion of winning the award Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General, Dubai Municipality said "Solar pumping system is one of the innovative projects which may contribute best in the journey to become the city that provides comfort of sustainable living."
"We use solar energy to irrigate 34 roundabouts in Dubai using waste water at an ultimately low coast and the result is an eco-friendly sustainable project to add the glory of the Emirate." he continued.
He also said Dubai Municipality made collaborations with Alsa Solar Systems to develop the new eco-friendly system for irrigation replacing usage of diesel and keeping considerable number of irrigation trucks off the road.
It is said that by implementing new system, Dubai Municipality could reduce more than 4,000 trips of water container trucks that would have been creating rush on Dubai roads.
Dubai Municipality was adjudged winner out of 200 primary nominations and from 21 finalist candidates.
Award receiving function held at Dubai Municipality main centre in Deira was attended by Salah Amiri, Assistant Director General, Eng. Taleb Jalfar, Director, Drainage & Irrigation Department, Eng. Mohammed Al- Noory, Director, Corporate Marketing& Relations Department and Marwan Abdul Wahid, Head of Irrigations Project Section.
