Mary Nazzal-Batayneh, Founder of Landmark Hotels in Jordan and Palestine, has been honoured as one of 200 Young Global Leaders through the World Economic Forum for 2013.  Along with her fellow classmates, Mary Nazzal-Batayneh has been selected from a pool of several thousand candidates, by a committee chaired by H.M. Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

In its recent announcement of the new YGL Class of 2013, Mary Nazzal-Batayneh was recognized by the World Economic Forum for her professional achievements and commitment to society based on her proven track record, leadership experience, and her ability to overcome adversity.

In addition to spearheading the only local chain of 5 star hotels in Jordan, Mary Nazzal-Batayneh is a UK barrister and political activist with vast experience campaigning for human rights through several civil society organizations.  She was also the Chair of the Palestine Legal Aid Fund, an organization founded to hold Israel accountable for violations of international law. She holds degrees from Columbia University, SOAS University of London, the College of Law, and Inns of Court School of Law.

"I am very proud to be the only Jordanian chosen for 2013 and I am excited to learn as much as I can from such an inspiring group of Young Global Leaders. I am enthusiastic to be exposed to new ideas and bring whatever I learn back to our local community."

Mary Nazzal-Batayneh is accompanied by honourees from 70 countries across East Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, North America, South Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.  The honourees stem from multiple sectors of society including arts and culture, academia, business, civil society, media, politics and social entrepreneurship.

Recognizable names in the 2013 class of YGL's includes the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and Board Member of the Clinton Foundation Chelsea Clinton, Tawakkol Karman, the journalist and Nobel Peace Prize winner from Yemen, and Mark Pollock, the Irish athlete and adventurer who became the first blind man to reach the South Pole.
