KUWAIT: The global Business Continuity Awareness Week (18th- 22nd March) was observed by the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) in Kuwait at its awareness event held on 19th March themed "Business Continuity: Risks which you can see and the one's you can't".
The event was aptly supported by the Kuwait member firm of Protiviti (www.protiviti.com), a global consulting firm. Mr. Muhammad Ghazali, Business Continuity Expert from Protiviti, who also serves as the Leader of the BCI Kuwait Forum and was adjudged as the Industry Personality of the Year 2012, presented a session on Business Continuity Horizon Scan 2013. He provided a comprehensive view of the top threats faced by 700 Organizations from 62 countries in 2013 along with the analysis of underlying trends, uncertainties and concerns that may cause future disruptions. During the presentation, he highlighted the top six threats for organizations to maintain the continuity of services. In addition, he also discussed the threats to eight business sectors. He pointed out that based on a recent survey unplanned IT and telecom outages, data breach and cyber-attack remained the point of concern for all the eight business sectors. Interruption to utility supply, security incident, and adverse weather secured the remaining three positions, in the top six threats of 2013.
The BCAW Kuwait Forum which witnessed participation from over 75 industry delegates was opened by Nisar A. Khan, CEC Member of BCI Kuwait Forum who thanked the participants for making the BCAW event successful consecutively in its 2nd year. He also appreciated Protiviti for its continuing support to the Forum's endeavors of spreading the awareness and necessity of Business Continuity Management in the organization system.
"Uncertainty looms large on organizations as they are confronted with an ever- increasing range of risks to deal with. Some risks are identified while few are the black swans that swim up on us from nowhere, the high profile, high impact, hard to predict events. Organizations are increasingly demanding solutions that will help them in managing both types of business risks. There is only one solution - Business Continuity (BC). I am glad that BCI is actively serving the GCC industry by conducting awareness sessions on the importance of integrating proper business continuity processes in the organization system and Protiviti will continue to support the Forum endeavors in future as well", said Senthil Kumar, Managing Director & IT Consulting Head for the Middle East Region of Protiviti Member Firm.
