Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) honours the CSR initiative of DM Healthcare and its supporting partners DHA & RTA for initiating (STRAP) and (BEAT) campaigns.

Dubai, February 06, 2013:  Adhering to the traffic rules and wearing the protective gear while on the road are the big solutions to bring down road accidents, according to the experts, speaking at a public awareness workshop organised by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services at its headquarter premises at Al Warzan, Dubai.

A Workshop on "The Importance of Road Safety and BLS Awareness" was held as part of the STRAP (Safety Tips for Road Accident Prevention), a CSR initiated by DM Healthcare, the leading healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East and India, in association with Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The campaigns, which were launched in December 2012, aim to raise awareness on road safety, and educate people how to act on critical emergencies and situations.

Addressing the various key issues that lead to safety on roads, the knowledge seminar was attended by senior government officials and other dignitaries.

At the event, His Excellency Khalifa Hassan Al Darrai, Executive Director of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), said: "The vision of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services is to provide world class governed and accountable ambulance services, through cooperation and teamwork in providing quality social services. We welcome this initiative by DM Healthcare and are happy to form this partnership along with Dubai Health Authority and Roads and Transport Authority."

Speaking at the event, Padma Shri Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman of DM Healthcare, said; "Road accidents are one of the major causes of death in the world. It is said that about 1.2 million people die in road accidents every year, which is almost half the population of Dubai when you look in perspective. About 50 per cent of this number is below 30 years of age. This is an alarming number. The unfortunate part about this statistics is that most of these are preventable. With simple measures, these fatal accidents can be avoided. Awareness in this area will help in reducing this greatly. The key points that can help in the reduction of death on the roads are control of speed, wearing the seatbelt, wearing helmets, not drinking and driving. The awareness begins at home, and following the rules," Dr. Moopen added.

"To be part of this mission with the leading government authorities of Dubai is a great opportunity for us at DM Healthcare to actively drive the message of road safety among the people in the UAE. We are grateful to DCAS, RTA and DHA who have supported us in this initiative." He added

His Excellency Khalifa Hassan Al Darrai honoured Dr. Azad Moopen, Dr. Hanan Ali Mubarak Obaid, Mr. Ahmed Al Halyan and Dr. Omar Al Sakaf officials of DHA, RTA and DCAS respectively for their efforts in public awareness initiatives and community welfare programmes.

As part of this campaign, DM Healthcare has launched the first Mobile Medical Clinic in the UAE known as 'Dr Aster Mobile', which is being used as a tool to reach people with the message of road safety. The vehicle has been constantly on the move going to various corporate houses, labour camps, school and public areas in the UAE to conduct medical camps, awareness seminars on road safety and offer BLS training.

Dr. Aster Mobile was stationed at the DCAS premises during the event and a joint medical camp was organized by DHA and DM Healthcare for the participants and DCAS staffs. Scores of participants took advantage of the camp to check their blood sugar, glucose and body mass index (BMI) levels, smoking cessation, Doctors consultation, and Dietary and Nutritional advice.

DCAS lined up its state-of-the-art fleet of Ambulances at the event that is used to respond to emergency situations and demonstrated it services. The world class and role model fleet consists of Bicycles Ambulances to large Ambulances with Operation Theatre facilities were appreciated by Dr. Moopen.
