Dar Al Shifa Hospital adopt the Cardiac MRI Technique - the First in Kuwait
A Conference marking the occasion and discussing the latest innovative diagnostic developments in the field of Cardiac MRI was attended by renowned cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and radiologists

Kuwait -15 February, 2012: Dar Al Shifa Hospital recently held a seminar that highlighted best practice methods on cardiac MRI along with the value of heart imaging. The event held in Safir Marina Hotel, included renowned cardiologists and radiologists across Kuwait, who shared insight as well as latest research findings.

MR. Taleb Jeraq, Head of Higher Committee at Dar Al Shifa Hospital said: "We are glad to have hosted such informative events that demonstrate our leadership position. This interactive seminar is a core part of our overarching strategy of sharing leading insight, and understanding the dynamics of the latest technological advancements across our daily operations."

"The cardiac MRI service at Dar Al Shifa Hospital is a new addition to the imaging center, which is showing a great potential for becoming the imaging investigation of choice for many cardiac patients," added Mr. Jeraq.

Dr. Tariq Sinan, Consultant Interventional Radiologist & Head of Diagnostic Imaging Center at Dar Al Shifa Hospital provided his introductory remarks, and gave the floor to Dr. Ravi Mathai, Consultant Radiologist at Dar Al Shifa Hospital, who shed light on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. During his presentation, Dr. Mathai highlighted that quantification with cardiac MRI is accurate, as it does not make geometric assumptions on ventricular shape. The procedure is used to diagnose and assess many diseases and conditions, including coronary heart disease, damage caused by a heart attack, heart failure, heart valve problems, congenital heart defects, pericarditis, as well as cardiac tumors.

Cardiac MRI has excellent inter-study reproducibility and it has proven to be the golden standard in measuring ventricular volumes, while its unrestricted field of view provides structural and functional flow information on the heart in one single test. The process is safe and noninvasive, and does not involve the use of ionizing radiation or nephrotoxic contrast agents. Cardiac MRI creates both still and moving pictures of your heart and major blood vessels. Doctors use cardiac MRI to get pictures of the beating heart and to look at its structure and function. These pictures can help them decide the best way to treat people who have heart problems

Dr. Ahmed Alaadine, Consultant -Cardio Vascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiologist & Head of Cardiology department at Dar Al Shifa Hospital also mentioned the success that the Cardiac MRI service at Dar Al Shifa Hospital has achieved is attributed to the fruitful collaboration between the cardiology and radiology teams. Such initiatives also mark the quality and services that are on offer. During his presentation, Dr. Alaadine also discussed when patients should do proceed with cardiac MRIs.

Dar Al Shifa Hospital continues to provide the best in the field of radiology, offering the bet latest CT scanning technology. Comprehensive check-ups are completed in a matter of seconds, using the world's lowest CT radiation doses.

Dar Al Shifa Hospital was established in 1963 as the first private hospital in the State of Kuwait. It began as a private maternity care hospital, and has since then steadily grown to encompass a wide spectrum of healthcare services.
