Iraqiya will not apologize for Mutlag's remarks says MP
BAGHDAD - Iraqiya List (led by Ayad Allawi) will not offer any apologies for the remarks the Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Mutlag made against PM Nouri al-Maliki, said an Iraqiya representative.Dhafer Ani said "We [Iraqiya] refuse to apologize ... but personal reconciliation between Mutlag and Maliki is feasible."
In some media statements Iraqiya deputy Mutlag described PM like "a destructive dictator" which led Maliki sack him.
The National Alliance, which nominated Maliki for his current post, offered three options to ease the tensions over Multag's issue; both Mutlag and Iraqiya should apologize and their apology should be accepted by PM, or Mutlag should himself resign, or Iraqiya should name another deputy for Mutlag's position.
Ani added Iraqiya alliance has focused on four major issues as its agenda for the expected national congress of political leaders: release of political prisoners, normalizing the situation in Diyala, returning Mutlag to his post, and resolving the issue of Vice President Tareq Hashemi "politically and legally".
After PM rejected the regional autonomy demands of Diyala and Salahaddin provinces, dominated by Iraqiya deputies, Iraqiya List boycotted sessions of the Council of Ministers and the House of Representatives.
Though the alliance ended its boycott of House almost two weeks ago, it is yet to decide whether to return to government.
Tensions between Iraqiya and the NA are high over Mutlag and Hashemi's issues. Hashemi is wanted by court under terrorism charges which he denies and calls fabricated.
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has called for a national congress of the political leaders to ease the tensions and end the crisis. The meeting is expected to be held soon.
