Jordan did not request additional loan -- WB

AMMAN -- The World Bank (WB) on Monday clarified in a press release that Jordan has not requested an additional loan to cover some government's financial needs.

In a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times yesterday, the international financial institution said the government is currently examining its financial priorities for the next phase and will discuss with the World Bank the possibility of further budget support to cover some of its needs through new financial assistance, whose elements and amount will be agreed upon in due course.

The World Bank's board of executive directors has recently approved a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Jordan for the next four years (2012-2015). In this context, the board endorsed a budget support loan of $250 million.

The CPS includes a package of World Bank technical assistance and financial aid to the Kingdom, amounting to between $500 million to $650 million over the four-year lifespan of the partnership agreement, the statement said.

Pointing out to the bank's Managing Director Sri Mulyani Indrawati and an accompanying high-level delegation visit to the Kingdom between February 5 and 7, where she discussed all aspects of cooperation within the framework of the CPS, the statement stressed that there was no request made by the government for a further $500 million additional loan or any other amount as reported by some local media.
