Governorates Development Fund takes off
Several agreements mark the start of workHe was speaking during the signing ceremony of several agreements marking the start of the fund's work, according to a statement from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
During the ceremony, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Jafar Hassan signed agreements to finance projects of 67 cooperative and charity societies in various governorates at a cost of JD3.4 million.
Qudah also signed an agreement with the Royal Scientific Society deputy president, under which the Enhanced Productivity Centres Project (IRADA) will provide technical support and advisory services to guarantee the success of the fund's projects.
He expressed hope that the private sector will take part in the fund's work to ensure its sustainability.
All the agreements signed yesterday constitute the first phase of the fund and will provide more than 1,000 job opportunities in governorates, the minister of planning indicated.
Hassan said the fund will finance productive and service projects implemented by institutions in local communities; thereby enhancing local economic development in governorates, improving living conditions of citizens and creating more job opportunities.
His Majesty King Abdullah ordered the creation of the JD150 million fund in July last year during a visit to the Mafraq Governorate in order to finance development plans for the country's governorates.
The government has allocated JD25 million from last year's budget to implement the fund's projects, in addition to JD25 million allocated from this year's budget.
