Bangkok, Thailand - 7 February 2012 - Qatar Petroleum ( QP ) along with some of its directorates and joint ventures has a strong presence at the 2011 International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), which opens today and is scheduled until February 9 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Originally scheduled in November 2011 but was moved to February 2012 due to the severe flooding in Thailand late last year, the 2011 IPTC is a major event that provides a platform for all participants to exchange views on technology issues, the latest innovations, and other important concerns facing the world's oil & gas industry today.
QP is one of the major exhibitors at the event, which is being held at the Bangkok Convention Centre. The QP stand has a total area of 144 square meters and it prominently features the operations of Mesaieed Industrial City, Ras Laffan Industrial City, RasGas Company Limited (RasGas), Qatargas, and Qatar Petrochemical Company ( Qapco ).
The delegation from Qatar is headed by Mr. Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, Deputy Chairman of the QP Board of Directors and Managing Director of RasGas. Many senior officials from QP , RasGas, Qatargas and Qapco are also attending the event. In addition, Mr. Nasser Khalil Ibrahim Al-Jaidah, a member of the QP Board of Directors and CEO of Qatar Petroleum International, is the co-chairman of the 2011 IPTC plenary session on "Technology and Operational Excellence - Keys to a Sustainable Global Energy."
"The 2011 IPTC is an opportunity for us to touch base with our counterparts in Asia and to interact with industry professionals from all over the world, thus allowing us to highlight the continued major developments in Qatar's vibrant oil and gas industry," said Mr. Al Mohannadi.
Launched in Doha in 2005 and now on its fifth edition, IPTC is a collaborative effort involving four major organizations: the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The previous edition of the event was held in Doha in 2009, with QP serving as the host organization.
Starting this year, the IPTC Board of Directors has decided to hold the event annually, alternating between the Middle East during odd-numbered years and the Asia-Pacific region during even-numbered years. The event is expected to return to Doha in December 2013 and again in December 2015.
