Over 700 experts take part in pharmaceutical meet
DOHA: More than 700 clinicians, pharmacists, pharmacy students and pharmacy-related professionals from Qatar and other GCC Countries took part in the second Qatar International Pharmaceutical Conference at the Qatar National Convention Center during the weekend.The two-day conference under the theme "achieving excellence in practicing pharmaceutical care, education and research" was jointly organised by the Department of Pharmacy at Hamad Medical Corporation ( HMC ) and the Wakrah Hospital, a member of HMC .
Professor Joseph DePierro, Dean of Carolina College of Pharmacy in the US gave a lecture entitled "clinical pharmacy in 2012". Other speakers included Dr Stan Kent, Chairman of American Pharmacists Association and Supervisor of Pharmacy Services at North Coast Hospital / Evanston University (USA), who gave a lecture entitled "An example of pharmacy practice in a US hospital".
Dr Zakri Wheper, Associate Professor for Clinical Pharmacy at Berdo University tackled the latest anti-coagulant drugs issue, while Dr Kamal Sabrah, a World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant and former Assistant Minister of Health for Pharmaceutical Affairs in Egypt and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, gave a lecture on the financial pharmacology of clinical pharmacy.
A number of prominent speakers and participants from HMC , Sidra Medical Research Center, Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar and Qatar University also participated in the event. Abstracts of researches from Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Qatar were distributed to the attendees.
