Barton Cahir named President of ExxonMobil Qatar
DOHA: Barton P Cahir is the new President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. Cahir will be responsible for leading the interface of all ExxonMobil-affiliated activities in Qatar in partnership with Qatar Petroleum as well as joint ventures between Qatar Petroleum International and ExxonMobil abroad. ExxonMobil is working to realize the full potential of Qatar's energy industry.
An American and Irish citizen, Cahir holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering from Penn State University in Pennsylvania. He has worked for ExxonMobil for almost 20 years throughout the United States, Asia and the Middle East.
Commenting on his appointment Cahir said: "I have been given an incredible opportunity to work in Qatar and I look forward to working with, learning from and sharing my experiences with other leaders in Qatar who are actively participating in the overall development of this country. Qatar has been blessed with natural resources, and I believe the energy industry is a key sector for Qatar's continued economic development."
Cahir was then relocated to Indonesia in 2006, where he served as the Vice President for Engineering and later as Vice President for Production at ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia Inc., while also serving as a Director for PT Arun LNG. In these roles he was responsible for oversight of ExxonMobil's gas production and LNG manufacturing assets in North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Cahir will maintain focus on the company's philanthropic activities in Qatar. He said: "ExxonMobil touches every aspect of the national vision. From economy to environment, human to social, ExxonMobil has positioned itself with the campaigns, programs and opportunities that allow it to make significant contributions while best aligning itself with the objectives Qatar has set out in the National Vision. As an invited guest in Qatar, ExxonMobil values its role and aims to support the Qatari leadership in the directions set for the country." In his new capacity, Bart Cahir will serve on the Board of Directors of INJAZ-Qatar and will be a Board Member of the Qatar Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce.
