IUPAC POC 2012 presents award to QAPCO CEO
Conference organizers recognize sponsors and award top presenters at banquet.
VIP guests from industry and academia attended the banquet. This included Dr. Hassan Bazzi, associate professor of chemistry at Texas A&M University at Qatar and conference chair; Dr. Al-Mulla; Dr. Robert H. Grubbs, Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, 2005 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and conference keynote speaker; Dr. Eiman Mustafawi, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University ; Mr. Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, managing director of Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO) ; Mrs. Julie Barker, chief operating officer of Texas A&M at Qatar; Mr. Fathi Al-Shehab, senior vice president for the GCC, Levant, Iran, Yemen and Indian subcontinent at Qatar Airways ; and the conference's eight session chairs.
Following dinner and a performance by the Doha String Quartet, Bazzi and Grubbs presented Al-Mulla with the leadership award. Commenting on the award, Bazzi said, "Dr. Al-Mulla sets a positive example for all those in the petrochemical field, particularly those working in Qatar's growing economy. His visionary leadership of a top company such as QAPCO and commitment to research and development are just two of the many characteristics that make him worthy of the leadership award we present to him tonight. It is my honor as conference chair to recognize Dr. Al-Mulla for his many accomplishments and thank him for his generous support of POC 2012."
Bazzi and Dr. Stuart Rowan, associate editor of the American Chemical Society (ACS) journal ACS Macro Letters, delivered five poster presentation awards to presenters from the Netherlands, Japan, Germany and two from the United States. Two oral presentation awards from the Wiley Periodicals Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry were also distributed.
