Dubai Municipality organizes environmental forum
Environmental Planning and Studies Section with Environmental Department at Dubai Municipality has organized recently an environmental forum on industrial waste. The forum held at Municipality Club discussed many topics related to industrial waste with special focus on the challenges in the field of reducing and recycling waste created by industrial development. Subject experts from both government and private sectors and representatives from industrial firms and companies participated in the event along with officials from the Civic Body.
Different experiments and experiences in the field of reducing, reusing and recycling industrial wastage, which has become a threat and challenge to modern societies, were shared and discussed upon in the program.
"We need development with our environment unpolluted .Municipality holds this type of activities to promote eco friendly practices aiming at sustainable development" said Eng. Ahmed Al Jassmy, Head of Environmental Planning and Studies, Environment Department, in his inaugural address in which he presented a detailed account of Department's policies and plans ,ongoing and upcoming, which aim at reducing and reusing the industrial wastage.
EnviroServe made a presentation about the company's activities in the field of e-waste management which include projects for recycling and reusing computers, mobile phones and other electrical and electronic devices as well as the safe disposal of greenhouse gases causing depletion of the ozone layer.
Lootah Bio Fuels, another prominent company to attend the event, presented on technology to convert used cooking oils to bio-fuels and glycerol which can be used to operate diesel vehicles. According to the company, reduce in the use of petroleum products and 15% cut in carbon dioxide is the advantage of this technology.
Barker Pigments detailed about their initiatives to reduce as well as reuse industrial waste to ensure sustainable development. They concentrate on technology to process the wastewater generated from various industrial processes.
At the concluding session Eng. Ahmed honoured the participants and distributed certificates and commemorative shields.
