Qatar Petroleum launches Sustainable Development Report for the energy & industry sector
Doha, Qatar - 4 January 2012: Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP , Qatar Petroleum has launched the energy and industry sector's first-ever "Sustainable Development Industry (SDI) Report" for the State of Qatar.
Aligned with both the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) and the National Development Strategy (NDS), the SDI report covers the various sustainability initiatives and projects undertaken by energy & industry stakeholders operating in the country.
A total of 17 energy & industry stakeholders, in addition to QP , had participated in the report by submitting information on their sustainability initiatives from 2009 to 2010 to QP 's HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate. This information summarizes the priorities and progress achieved in the energy and industry sector in regards to the implementation of various sustainable development programs.
In his keynote address, HE Dr. Al-Sada stressed on the importance of this report as another strategic milestone for Qatar's energy and industry sector. "Through sustainability reporting, energy & industry stakeholders can demonstrate their commitment to the long-term growth and development of the sector while ensuring the alignment of their operations with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016," he said.
In addition to the senior officials of the 17 companies, also present at the ceremony was Mr. Saif Saed Al-Naimi, Director of QP 's HSE Regulations & Enforcement Directorate (DG), who expressed his gratitude and appreciation to HE Dr. Al-Sada for his support to this initiative and his continuous encouragement for all activities related to sustainable development. Mr. Al-Naimi also thanked the participating companies for their contributions and discussed the directorate's plan in the preparation of future reports.
"A reporting timetable will be enhanced over the next five years and will recognise the efforts of all operators via a ranking-and-award system for all the companies that have submitted their reports on time, and this will be implemented for the next reporting period," Mr. Al-Naimi said.
"Moreover, the directorate will also manage this reporting initiative over a longer-term to further enhance the industry' sustainable development actions and reporting and thereby prove the energy and industry sector's commitment to achieve the National Vision 2030," he added.
