Dreamliner to take part in Qatar festivities

DUBAI -- Boeing's remarkable Dreamliner 787 has touched down in Doha on a three-day visit and it will also take part in today's celebration of Qatar's National Day.

The visit, its only stop in the Middle East, is part of a six-month international tour of the Dreamliner to give the feeling of the aircraft to airlines that have already ordered for the Boeing 787.

Last month, the same Dreamliner ZA003 arrived in Dubai on the eve of the biennial Dubai Air Show, marking the Middle East debut for the all-new jet. The aircraft was available for stakeholders and visitors for four days in Dubai.

The Dreamliner arrived in Doha on Friday, as part of Qatar's National Day celebrations, also known as Founder's Day, and during the visit, representatives from Qatar Airways , the Qatar government and the media will be able to experience its revolutionary technology and customer experience first-hand.

Qatar Airways has ordered 30 Dreamliners with 30 more on option, and will be the first regional airline to receive the first 787 delivery in the second quarter of 2012.

The ZA003 was originally used for flight-testing and has now been elegantly refurbished to showcase the 787's innovative interior and other features, according to the company.

The 787-8, the first member of the 787 family of jetliners, is a twin-aisle airplane that accommodates 210-250 passengers on routes between 7,650 and 8,200 miles (14,200 and 15,200 km) -- making it the only mid-size airplane capable of long-range routes.
