Prince Alwaleed & Princess Ameerah Visit Ghana & Meet President
HRH Awarded the Key to the City of Accra Following Highest Medal AwardHRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) and HH Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel Vice Chairwoman of the Foundation which is chaired by HRH were on the recent visit Ghana and were warmly received by HE John Atta-Mills, the President of the Republic of Ghana at the Castle Osu. HRH and HH were accompanied by a delegation from KHC, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation and the Private office. The delegation included Mr. Kofi Bucknor, Managing Partner of Kingdom Zephyr, Dr. Nahla Alanbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman, Ms. Hassna Alturki, Executive Assistant Manager, Travel and External Affairs Department, Mr. Hani Agha, Senior Manager Travel and External Affairs Dept, Mr. Hicham Fleihan, Manager Travel and External Affairs Dept., Dr. Jihad Aoukal, HRH's Private Physician, Ms. Amani Algahtani, Assistant Executive Manager- HRH's Palaces, Mr. Fahad Alofy, Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman and Ms. Manal Alshammary, Protocol Department Manager.
The President and Prince Alwaleed discussed general economic and social issues in addition to focusing on humanitarian issues. The President commended Prince Alwaleed on his global investments and Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation on their efforts and support to Ghana. Moreover, during the trip, HRH was awarded the Key to the City of Accra by Mr. Alfred Vanderpuye, the Mayor of the City of Accra at the Greater Accra Metropolitan Accra Assembly. Furthermore, Prince Alwaleed toured and inspected his investments through KHC in Ghana and inspected his humanitarian projects through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation.
In 2006, His Highness was awarded the highest honorary medal in the country, "Companion of the Order of the Volta" during an official ceremony of investiture attended by prominent state dignitaries. In addition, in 2004 HRH was conferred the Honorary Doctorate from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana for His Highness's global investments and humanitarian efforts. Also in 2003 the Prince was awarded, by the King of Ashanti tribe with the diploma, with the rank of "Citizen of Honor of the Kingdom of Ashanti".
In 2003, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation had supported Ghana on a number of humanitarian projects that include: a donation of $100,000 to support the Fund for Early Child Center, $100,000 to support the Ghana Otumfuos Education Fund, $300,000 towards children's preschool programs, and $600,000 Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research towards a clinical research facility for AIDS, malaria, and malnutrition for a total of $1 million. Prince Alwaleed had also sponsored the pilgrimage of 150 Ghanaian citizens which was estimated to cost over one million Saudi Riyals. In addition, the Foundation donated $250,000 to the Natural Disaster Relief Fund to provide relief from the destruction caused by the floods in 2007.
