EGM approves Oman Mobile-Omantel merger
Oman Telecommunications Company 's extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on October 12 approved the planned merger of Oman Mobile with Omantel . The meeting was chaired by Abdul Kader Askalan vice chairman of Omantel 's board of directors.On October 10, the meeting of shareholders of Oman Mobile approved the merger proposal, which will reinforce the company's position in the sultanate as the biggest integrated telecom services provider, a press release said.
Dr Amer bin Awadh al Rawas, chief executive officer of Omantel , said, "The approval of the general meeting of the company for the planned merger proposal between Oman Mobile and Omantel is a legal requirement according to the Commercial Companies Law and forms the last step in the merger initiative that was launched three years back when the operations of both companies were integrated into one unified operating model."
Dr Rawas added, "Our customers were able to see the fruits of the integration of operational activities which were clearly reflected in the improved quality of service and the focus on customers as we had a customer-centric operating model that was designed to ensure that we satisfy the growing needs of our different customers.
"The launch of the integrated operational model played an important role in introducing innovative products and services for the first time in Oman, such as Mada Infinity and Mada Liberty, Hayyak Liberty and unlimited home broadband packages, Dr Rawas added.
