UAE: Diesel price reduced by 20 fils

By Muaz Shabandri DUBAI -- Fuel retailers in Dubai have lowered the price of diesel following a decline in international prices. Motorists will pay 20 fils lesser for every litre of diesel, as the new international prices took effect on October 1.

Emirates National Oil Company ( ENOC ) in Dubai confirmed that the diesel price had been reduced.

Speaking with Khaleej Times, Khalid Hadi, Director of Brand and Corporate Communications at ENOC , said, "Due to the reduction of diesel prices in the international market, ENOC and EPPCO have decided to reduce the selling price of diesel by 20 fils per litre."

Diesel prices have been reduced from Dh3.70 to Dh3.50 per litre. The price reduction is expected to save transport costs for companies with trucks and construction vehicles.

Syed Kazim who owns a moving and transport business says a price reduction is always welcome. "I didn't notice much of a difference in the overall costs but there will surely be some savings on the cost of transportation," said Kazim. He added that the latest price reduction would not cause a significant change in his business.

Another truck owner, Mohammed Baksh, echoed similar views. "I don't think it will make a lot of difference to the small businesses. Companies in the distribution and construction industry will feel the difference as they have more vehicles which will amount to bigger cost savings," said Baksh.
