Innovation 360 Encourages People to Play at Work
CEO Kamal Hassan believes a legendary toy can improve innovation, communication and teamwork in any organization.Kamal Hassan, President and CEO of Dubai-based Innovation 360 Institute, is one of a few people in the world certified as a Trained LEGO SERIOUS PLAY Facilitator. Mr. Hassan has begun incorporating the innovative hands-on methodology into his company's training and consulting services, beginning with workshops on idea generation and management and business model innovation and design.
Says Hassan, "LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is the most powerful approach I have seen that combines both our physical abilities and brain power, enabling us to use our whole brain to think more clearly and overcome obstacles creatively."
Since the inception of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY in the 1990s, organizations from auto makers to online auctions to financial service providers have applied the methodology to solve issues related to strategy development, mergers, new product and service development, change management and team dynamics.
"There is substantial evidence that adults need to play, and not just at the golf course on weekends," Hassan asserts. "Adult play, when it is structured correctly as the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY methodology demonstrates, frees our imagination and makes us more open to possibilities. It also improves communication, especially among teams, by giving everyone a safe way to express their opinions."
"They say 'a picture is worth a thousand words,'" he continues. "LEGO SERIOUS PLAY works on the
same principle by allowing others to see what you are trying to say, instead of just hearing it."
"It's hard fun," Hassan admits, "but the results are worth it."
