Increase in online nominations expected to continue in the remaining days of the Abu Dhabi Awards nomination period

Increase in online nominations expected to continue in the remaining days of the Abu Dhabi Awards nomination period
Abu Dhabi, 14 September 2011 - The Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee has revealed 70% growth in online nominations received via the Abu Dhabi Awards website, compared to the 2009 campaign, and they expect this number to increase further in the last phase of the nomination campaign.

With the nomination period entering its final weeks, citizens and residents from across the community are encouraged to submit their nomination to recognise someone's contribution to the community. Nominations close at the end of this month.

Held under the guidance and auspices of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Abu Dhabi Awards is a unique opportunity to recognise those citizens and residents who have selflessly given their time to make a tangible difference to the community of Abu Dhabi.

"The Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee has been overwhelmed by the positive response and understanding of the public to this year's campaign," said an Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee member. "As we enter into the last two weeks of the nomination period, we again call upon people to take the opportunity to recognise the selfless acts of goodness being carried out in our community. One nomination is all it takes for an individual to be recognised," the official added.

Reflecting on how important it is to nominate, 2008 Abu Dhabi Awards recipient, 15 year-old Cameron Oliver said, "My dad once told me that every river starts with one drop of water. This means small things can make a big difference. Please nominate someone who has done a good deed, and make a big difference."

Whilst, 2009 Award recipient Isabelle Le Bon Poonoosamy explains: "Community work is not about how much money you can donate. It's about how much time and effort you can put in to spread goodness around you and about how many people you can inspire. So if you know someone who is doing good deeds for the community, nominate them now!"

Registering a nomination has never been easier, with 100 nomination drop boxes and stands located across the Emirate. A roving nomination bus is touring locations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia to ensure that as many people as possible can find out about the Awards, in addition to the Awards website: www.abudhabiawards.ae .

There are four ways to cast your nomination for the Abu Dhabi Awards:

  • Visit one of the 100 nomination stations located across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia;

  • Submit an online nomination via www.abudhabiawards.ae;

  • Stop by the touring Abu Dhabi Awards nomination bus;

  • Post a completed nomination form to PO Box 44442, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

    The Abu Dhabi Awards are presented to citizens, residents and non-residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi regardless of their age and nationality. Nominations and recipients are not limited to specific categories, meaning that anyone can be nominated for an Award. Nor are the Awards presented on the basis of the number of nominations cast, meaning that one nomination is all it takes to recognise someone.

    Screening and judging of the nominations take place as soon as the submissions are received, and this process continues until all nominations have been evaluated. The 2011 recipients are announced at the Awards ceremony in December.

    About The Awards
    During his memorable lifetime, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the United Arab Emirates, believed in the generosity and kindness of the people of the UAE. The affection he bestowed upon his people emanated from his faith in humanity and trust in the belief that every person is inherently selfless and capable to care for others and their community.

    Through the commitment of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to preserve the legacy of our nation's late father, the Government of Abu Dhabi has chosen to celebrate compassionate individuals who have selflessly volunteered their time to build and support the community of Abu Dhabi.

    Established under the guidance and auspices of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Abu Dhabi Awards is a biennial ceremony that honours and recognises individuals who have contributed in building a greater sense of community and social welfare within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

    Through their selfless action, Abu Dhabi Awards recipients illustrate the legacy of the nation's father.

    All citizens and residents of the Emirate are encouraged to nominate people who have contributed to building and supporting a community, regardless of age, nationality or gender; this includes Abu Dhabi citizens, residents and non-residents whose good deeds have benefited the Emirate, as well as Abu Dhabi citizens performing good deeds internationally.

    Award recipients are selected based on their deeds and actions, not by how many nominations they received - one nomination is all it takes!
