SEHA Announces the Appointment of New Chief Executive Officer from Cleveland Clinic at SKMC

September 14, 2011, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E: Abu Dhabi Health Services Company ( SEHA ) has appointed Jeffrey Staples, M.D., MBA, as Chief Executive Officer of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City ( SKMC ) managed by Cleveland Clinic, one of SEHA 's healthsystem facilities. Dr. Staples will be relieving Baltej 'Tej' Maini, M.D., who was appointed CEO in October 2009, after serving as chair of the SEHA/ SKMC Board. SKMC is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC ( SEHA ), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Staples brings 15 years of healthcare management experience to SKMC , most recently serving as Group Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific Health Partners in China where he specialized in business development, strategy and planning; healthcare systems design and integration; healthcare operations; and Joint Commission International preparations. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University in 1993 and his masters in business administration from San Francisco State University in 1989.

As CEO of SKMC , Dr. Maini focused on quality and outcomes, which led to the publication of the first Quality and Patient Safety book, a successful 2011 JCIA re-accreditation and the first ever College of American Pathologists (CAP) certification. Dr. Maini also initiated the SKMC Experience, in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic's Office of Patient Experience, to enhance patient and employee satisfaction and teamwork. He led the creation of SKMC 's five-year strategic plan and master facility plan, while restructuring the Outpatient Specialty Clinics and Family Medicine Clinics with unprecedented growth.
