Iran's petrochemical exports hit $5.3b in five months
TEHRAN- The Iranian Oil Ministry said the country has exported $5.3 billion worth of petrochemicals in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 21).
Iranian Oil Ministry website SHANA published the figures on Tuesday, adding that the volume of the petrochemicals exports reached 7.3 million tons in the mentioned period.
According to the report, Iran has now the annual capacity of producing 54.4 million tons of petrochemical products. In the first five months of current Iranian calendar year, the output of petrochemical products reached 17 million tons.
Iran is the second supplier of polymeric products to Turkey, alongside with Saudi Arabia. Islamic Republic is also the major supplier of methanol to China and the second largest exporter of the product to EU.
It is also predicted that Iran's petrochemical exports will increase to 19 million tons by the end of the current year.
Last month, the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing director said that about 45 percent of the total production of the country is exported, adding that the Islamic Republic exported 18 million tons of petrochemical goods worth $11.6 billion in the previous calendar year.
Iran has expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical products significantly over the past few years, and the NPC has become the second largest producer and exporter of petrochemicals in the Middle East.
