Iran's annual petchem exports to hit $14b
TEHRAN - Iran's petrochemical exports will amount to $14 billion by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2012), the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing director said here on Tuesday.
"Iranian companies produced more than 10.2 million tons of petrochemicals in the first three months of the current year, indicating a two percent growth compared to the same period of the year before," the SHANA news agency quoted Abdolhossein Bayat as saying.
Referring to selling 6.4 million tons of petrochemicals in the mentioned period, Bayat added that the amount has increased 21 percent in comparison to the same period of last year.
According to the NPC director, Iran's petrochemical exports grew around 29 percent in the first three months of the current year and reached 4.1 million tons, gaining the country some 3.1 billion dollars income.
Bayat told IRNA news agency on July 24 that Iran's annual production of various petrochemical products will hit 60 million tons from the current figure of 42 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.
Bayat said that the increase is due to the implementation of a number of petrochemical projects with a capacity of eight million tons and a rise in the feed of the country's petrochemical complexes.
He went on to say that about 45 percent of the total production of the country is exported, adding that the Islamic Republic exported 18 million tons of petrochemical goods worth $11.6 billion in the previous calendar year.
Iran has expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical products significantly over the past few years, and the NPC has become the second largest producer and exporter of petrochemicals in the Middle East.
