UN Launches World Investment Report 2011 in Beirut
Beirut, 22 July 2011 (United Nations Information Centre)-- Political instability in the region is likely to dampen economic recovery, a UN report says. The World Investment Report (WIR) 2011, issued by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), noted that global Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to West Asia in 2010 fell by 12 per cent, but they are expected to bottom out in 2011.Subtitled "Non-Equity Modes of International Production and Development", the report will be launched by The UN Information Centre in Beirut on Tuesday 26 July 2011 at 11: AM at the UN House. Abulgasim Abdullah, Chief Financing for Development Section at ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division, will review the main results of the report related to FDI with a focus on the Arab region.
Each year, UNCTAD publishes its WIR, which provides analysis of the trends in FDI and the prevailing policies. It also offers a series of recommendations and a statistical annex with data on FDI flows.
