Energy Exports Up 30%

The export of oil, gas and petrochemicals has increased by 30 percent during the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 21).

Announcing the above, Hamid Husseini, the head of the Union of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Exporters, put the value of these exports at $3.81 billion, IRNA reported.

He stressed that the figure showed a 30-percent increase compared with the figure for the corresponding period of last year.

Husseini further said the export of gas condensates registered a significant growth among other exported products.

Gasoline Sale Capacity

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company ( NIORDC ) has announced that Iran is ready to export 2.6 million liters of gasoline per day.

NIORDC Managing Director Alireza Zeighami said on Sunday the gasoline export capacity of the Islamic Republic has witnessed a considerable growth due to the rise in production and fall in domestic consumption, Fars News Agency reported.

The official noted that the country's gasoline production capacity has increased to 70 million liters per day while consumption has declined to around 54 million liters a day.

Earlier in February, Zeighami said Iran launched marketing plans for the export of gasoline, noting that NIORDC issued a permit for the export of one billion liters.

He also stressed that NIORDC has launched a department dedicated to the marketing and sale of the product.
Zeighami also stated that the Oil Ministry plans to export other oil products such as diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas.

Turkish Deal Planned

Meanwhile, Iran's Oil Ministry and a Turkish private company plan to sign a deal that will result in the sale of four million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas to Turkey per day.

Deputy Oil Minister Javad Oji said Iran will deliver three to four mcm of gas to the Turkish company per day and "the deal is different from the current exports agreement" for supplying Turkey with 25 to 30 mcm per day of gas, SHANA reported on Sunday.

Oji noted that the firm needs the Iranian natural gas to convert it into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Turkish market.

The official went on to say that the Oil Ministry will sign the gas deal with the company in the current year, without revealing the name of the Turkish firm.

In January, the National Iranian Gas Company announced that Iran exported 8.25 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey via pipeline in 2010.

According to British Petroleum's latest report titled the Statistical Review of World Energy, Iran's natural gas production posted a 5.6-percent increase to reach 138.5 billion cubic meters in 2010.

Iran, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, intends to increase its gas production by encouraging foreign and domestic investments, especially in its South Pars gas field.
