UAE to lead joint GCC participation in Japan World Stamp Exhibition
5 GCC countries to showcase their stamp collections under common banner in Yokohama from July 28 to August 2
The GCC pavilion will display unique stamps and postal history of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar at the annual international exhibition which is held in a different country each year, under the patronage of Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) and auspices of Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP).
"Emirates Post is delighted to lead the joint GCC participation in the world's most prestigious stamp show," said Ibrahim Bin Karam, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Post. "The event offers a strategic platform to project the philatelic excellence and cultural uniqueness of all countries. By participating under a common GCC banner, the GCC region can showcase the common traits of the member countries as well as their philatelic collection before an international audience."
"The international stamp exhibition is an event that is visited by thousands of people wherever it is held. Therefore, the GCC countries in general and the UAE in particular can use the event to highlight their unique tourist attractions and cultural richness for Japanese and international visitors," added Bin Karam.
'PHILANIPPON 2011' is jointly organized by the Japan Post Service Co, Philatelic Federation of Japan and Japan Philatelic Society. Significantly, this year's event is being held in Yokohama where the first Japanese international postal service was launched. This year also marks the 140th anniversary of the Japanese postal service.
This exhibition aims not only at enhancing the growth of philately but also promoting the joy of collecting stamps and engaging in philatelic activities among the younger generation. Additionally, it will display the world's leading framed stamp collections from 65 countries and territories.
This year, there will be additional activities, including daily sub-themes such as Fashion Day, Food Day, Animal Day, Festival Day, Scenes Day and Flower Day. There will also be a Children's Post Office and workshops related to philatelic such as peeling off stamps, paper cutout post cards, picture letters, used stamp cutouts, stencil postcards, handmade envelopes and more.
There will also be a section on Unique Stamps from around the World, not just the standard square-shaped, but others including heart-shaped stamps, or stamps with embroidery and some made of aluminum foil, and stereoscopic stamps and stamps with chocolate fragrance.
