Admission list announced for current year

MUSCAT: The Admission Centre yesterday announced admission details of the general education students under the age of 25 years, for the current academic year.

The director-general of the Centre for Admission, Zamzam bint Saif Al Lamki, informed that the number of male students selected this year is 16,883, 41.4 per cent of the total, while the proportion of female students is 58.6 per cent with 23,863 women candidates on the list of those selected for admissions.

The number of seats available are 27,944, to be divided among the public higher education institutions in the absence of private higher education institutions. The students can alter their choices of major on Saturday, when they modify the list of 40 options that they have chosen during the initial registration.

The Admission Centre has also announced the details of seats available for admissions until July 16. The number of seats at Sultan Qaboos University is 3,083.

The Applied Science Colleges' have 2,200 seats, while the seats available in the Technical Colleges have risen to 10,000. The Nursing Institutes are offering 653 seats and the Islamic Science Institutes 160 seats.

The number of seats for external scholarship candidates has been increased to 1,500 compared to 150 seats last year. There would also be 10 external scholarships for law students. The external scholarship holders would be provided with complete scholarships this year, and not just a portion of the expenditure, as was the case last year.

The internal scholarships available this year are the highest, totalling 7,000 seats. But this scholarship would include only the tuition fees. On the other hand, the number of internal scholarships for the low income pupils has reached 1,500 seats.
Oman Medical College would be offering 70 seats, with tuition fees exemption, while Oman Dental College is offering tuition fees exemption for 20 seats.

Ninety-three external grants are provided for students from friendly countries. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) would be providing 20 seats for external grant.

The number of partial scholarships provided by Oman Maritime College are for 100 seats and the internal grants by PDO would be 100 this year.

The amendment option for the students will begin from next Saturday morning.

The students would be able to modify their list of 40 options, which they had filled up earlier in January this year.
