General diploma students compete for 27,924 seats in Oman
By Abdulaziz al Jahdhami MUSCAT -- About 40,746 of the General Diploma holders will compete for 27, 924 seats in various government and private higher education institutions, according to a statement by Zamzam bint Saif al Lamkiya, Director-General of the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC).In her statement, she noted that the students are offered those seats to complete their undergraduate studies in different programmes which are offered from different government and private institutions. There are also many other free local and international scholarships that are offered from Omani companies.
The number of seats offered by the government higher education institutions is 16,096 and there are many other local and international grants and scholarships offering different programmes.
Those grants and scholarships include 1,653 international scholarships, 113 international grants, 9,708 local scholarships and 354 local grants.
The students will be given a sufficient period of time starting from Saturday, July 16, until 1 pm on Wednesday, July 27.
During the 12 days, the students can update or modify their forty previous options of programmes. They should adjust their options according to their final marks of the subjects and keeping into concentration the conditions of each programme they opt for.
This couple of days is the last chance for the students to make up their minds and select the right programme in accordance to the priority of those programmes and institutions.
On Saturday, the HEAC will announce in the local newspapers the new programmes offered and the changes that have been made in some of the programmes. The result of the first count of students' selection of programmes will be announced on Tuesday, August 2.
After that, students will be given eight days from August 2 to 9 to confirm their acceptance to the programme they are offered. Once students verify their acceptance, they should follow up on the required procedures with the institutions which they will be enrolled in from August 2 to 20.
