Oman Air Cargo starts new pan-GCC trucking services

By Maurice Gent From the start of this month the business of trucking goods in the GCC area has suddenly got a lot easier.

This is because Oman Air Cargo has introduced what it calls it's Pan-GCC trucking services. It means that already Custom bonded truck services connected with Muscat and Salalah can move between the two and also travel to other GCC countries. Oman Air 's spokesperson has described this as 'a milestone' in its development. He said 'It will be the first time in Oman's freight history that a scheduled custom-bonded trucking service is being introduced for customer use, connecting cargo from one airport to another both domestically as well as to selected airports within the GCC.

These new services will be offered by Able Logistics Group, Oman LLC, business partner of Oman Air . It has pledged to provide airport to airport connectivity, which is expected to play a major role in improving export and import growth by adding faster and more efficient connections. Oman Air 's partner says it specialises in transporting customs bonded cargo from airport to airport and non bonded cargo from airport to airport throughout the GCC and Middle East region.

This means that Oman Air is now linking between its cargo hubs in Muscat and Salalah to all GCC countries.

In the UAE the links will be to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah airports. In Saudi Arabia the service will connect Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah. Doha international airport will be the Qatar link. Kuwait and Bahrain airports will complete the 6-nation chain.

Commenting on the development, Oman Air Chief Commercial Officer, Abdulrazaq Alraisi said the airline was happy about this move towards pan-GCC trucking services. 'We are confident that local importers and exporters will welcome our road feeder product and turn this to their advantage in growing their businesses.

The road feeder services will be offered as scheduled services, while keeping open the option of ad hoc requests. We are sure that the new services will complement and supplement our narrow bodied aircraft flying within the Gulf Region'.

Oman Air and all other freight concerns are expected to be represented at next October's TransOman exhibition, which will be supported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The Observer has learnt that there is to be a strong emphasis this coming October on the logistics industry and how road, air, sea and indeed rail can be linked in the future. This will be the third annual TransOman event to be held in Oman.

With full participation from all sectors of the transport industry it will be of Gulf-wide significance with many international delegates discussing the whole future of the Gulf as a world transport hub.
