Self-Sufficiency in Refinery Parts Production

Iran is able to produce all the parts needed for its gas refineries, a senior Iranian gas official said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in the southern port city of Asalouyeh, Director for Coordination and Supervision Affairs of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mehdi Jamshidi Dana said that the company has implemented several projects to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of the parts needed for gas refineries, Fars News Agency reported.

He said that the establishment of a data bank for spare parts and chemical materials, a data bank of the local resources of gas refineries' parts, the technical specifications of the spare parts and setting up of self-sufficiency committees are among the projects implemented for achieving self sufficiency. Jamshidi Dana further announced that 160 projects are currently underway in the gas refineries to increase production capacity and boost stability in gas production.

In January, Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Oji announced that the country has boosted its gas refining capacity to 505 million cubic meters per day.

"We have now reached 505 mcm of gas refining capacity," Oji said at the time. The official said that the increase in refining capacities resulted from expanding output of Bidboland and Fajr Jam refineries.

Iran has the world's second-largest reserves of natural gas (15% of the world's total). Iran also holds roughly 10 percent of the world's total proven petroleum reserves.
