Amman: As USAID Jordan Economic Development Program moves towards its 5th and closing year of operation, it held its last Professional Communities Bi-annual Meeting and simultaneously named Talal Abu Ghazaleh (TAG)Knowledge Society as the Professional Communities future host.

At the meeting Mr. Tarek Hammad, Executive Director, Talal Abu Ghazaleh Knowledge Society reiterated his enthusiasm for the Professional Communities and emphasized how well they aligned with TAG's goals for increasing economic growth. Also during the meeting, Mr. Laith Al Qasem, Chief of Party, USAID Jordan Economic Development Program stressed on the importance of this initiative as a bottom up approach for economic development that augments and maximizes the program's impact.

The Professional Communities have grown rapidly over the past three years, increasing from 40 members to over 780 currently. A documentary that illustrated the concept and activities of the Professional Communities was shown at the meeting and it highlighted members' success stories over the past three years. "It is a great way to stay informed and gain more experience" said Ramzi Takali in the documentary, while dietician Noura Abdel Hadi found the 'customer satisfaction' sessions of particular relevance to her work "..they gave me lots of ideas on how to gain more loyal customers". Mustafa Abdulla, an HR specialist, put into practice everything he learned from the round tables "the outcome was very successful' he said.

Also occurring during the meeting was a seminar entitled Customer Centricity. The seminar highlighted the importance of aligning the firm's business model to the customer's ever-changing needs and preferences and how this practice enables firms to retain and grow its loyal clientele base and enable it to overcome challenges arising from uncontrollable environmental factors like the current economic crisis.

The USAID Jordan Economic Development Program is a five year economic development initiative implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. The Program's mission is to support sectors and activities in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision for a Knowledge-based Economy, by inserting Jordanian enterprises into global value chains, promoting investment, and improving the enabling environment to generate value added jobs, exports, foreign direct investment, and sector revenues as a powerful engine of economic growth.
