Omantel inks pact with OIFC
MUSCAT -- Omantel has announced that it has signed a contract with Oman Investment and Finance Company ( OIFC ) to provide the company with technology that will connect its 46 offices and bill payment machines all over Oman using Omantel ISO certified state of the art MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) system that provides faster, more efficient and secure transactions.
The highly tailored service provides a different range of bandwidths to suit the specific demands of the various sites that will be connected through Omantel 's MPLS Cloud system -- with the cloud acting as a hub to connect OIFC regional offices with its Muscat headquarters.
Commenting on the signing of this ceremony, Dr Amer Awadh al Rawas, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel , said: "Moving away from traditional leased lines to MPLS technology enables companies to save cost and deliver a greater return on investment for the companies who sign up to use the solution. Companies such as OIFC who deal in financial transactions of all kinds now require the most reliable, safe, secure and efficient systems for their operations and transactions.
"This new agreement with OIFC is the latest in a series of contracts we have signed with some of Oman's biggest companies helping their business efficiency and allowing them to operate in a safe, secure and very cost effective manner".
The new MPLS system will be administered by Omantel Business -- the telecommunications company's corporate business unit -- which already works closely with the financial services sector in Oman ensuring total connectivity.
Following the signing of the agreement, Shabir Moosa Al Yousuf Chief Executive Officer of OIFC said: "This marks an important step for OIFC in our ongoing development and progress to ensure we deliver the most consistent quality services to both our business partners who require our systems for their billing operations and to the general public who benefit from our network of sites across the Sultanate."
"The introduction of MPLS technology will significantly improve efficiency in our nationwide network of operations with the added benefits of major economies of scale through the replacement of many of our existing leased lines that we have with Omantel ." The agreement is supported by a Service Level Agreement (SLA) that guarantees a 99.9 per cent standard quality throughout the year. Omantel monitors the MPLS traffic through its advanced Network Management Centre that works round-the-clock to monitor all sites and ensure always on service.
Khalid Mohamed al Raisi, Sales Manager Financial Sector at Omantel added: " Omantel 's MPLS solution allows the seamless integration of voice, data, and video applications on the same network and has the capacity to grow with the individual demand of the business. The new technology will provide total back up for all parties".
Omantel has already signed a number of agreements with several banks and leading companies operating in the Sultanate to link their branches in the various regions of the Sultanate via the MPLS technology. An agreement has also been put in place with the Government as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen e-Government in the Sultanate.
The new look Omantel Business unit has been established as a solutions provider to its corporate customers and will now have a dedicated number and email for inquiries from prospective and existing customers.
The services offered to the corporate segment include ADSL, mobile postpaid and prepaid, leased lines, 3.5G Internet plans, IP MPLS, Internet leased lines, e-mail and web hosting and International Private Leased Circuits.
