Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority Signs MoU with Roads and Transport Authority

Strategic Partnership to Encourage People to Use Public Transport

Dubai-UAE: 23 May, 2011: Dubai Silicon Oasis ( DSO ), the integrated free zone technology park, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority ( RTA ).

Under the agreement, both parties will facilitate access to transport information among staff and tenants at Dubai Silicon Oasis to encourage greater use of public transport.

The MoU was signed between Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Executive VP Corporate Excellence & Support at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), and Essa Abdul Rahman Al Doosari, CEO of RTA 's Public Transport Agency.

The agreement aims to help achieve the Dubai government's objective of implementing sustainable transport within the emirate. Through a unified effort with the Public Transport Agency, DSO will seek to raise awareness on the importance of public transport, with the goal of reducing the use of private vehicles, easing parking congestion and cutting the zone's carbon footprint.

Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi said: "We are committed to offering a robust and eco-friendly environment for businesses within DSO . Dubai provides a dynamic and cost-effective public transport network that adapts to the needs of a growing population. All the evidence suggests that more people would be prepared to change their daily travel options if information and reliable transport is easily available. We are committed to providing full support to facilitate this in every way possible."

To help promote a greater use of public transport, information on bus schedules and carpooling will be made easily accessible to both staff and tenants. Workshops will also be arranged for staff and tenants who wish to decrease their reliance on cars when travelling to and from their office or home.

For his part, Essa Abdul Rahman Al Doosari said: "This strategic partnership is aligned with the emirate's objectives for sustainable transport. We commend Dubai Silicon Oasis ' effort to encourage its staff and tenants to use public transport. The RTA is working with key partners such as DSO to expand mobility options to people by encouraging them to use public transport as their preferred mode of transport."

Wholly-owned by the Government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone for companies producing semiconductors, microelectronics, and other high-tech products seeking to establish regional headquarters and centers of research and development in the Middle East and Africa.
