Senegal taking cue from tourism sector in Oman

The Senegalese government is looking to leverage Omani expertise in the tourism sector at the West African country's upcoming international tourism exhibition, according to a top official from the country's tourism development agency.

Mohamed Faouzou Deme, special adviser to theCEO and general manager of Senegal's National Agency of Promotion of Tourism,is currently in Muscat to lure Omani government bodies and private sectorcompanies to the Senegal International Tourism, Cultural Industries andArtistic Craft Fair taking place in Dakar from May 27-29.

The African nation, which is the onlycountry in the region to attract more than 1mn tourists annually, wants tolearn from the sultanate's experiences in establishing itself as a touristdestination, according to Deme. "We are inviting travel agencies and theMinistry of Tourism in particular. We would like them to see what they can dohere.

"We think we can learn from Oman and itsexperiences in the sector how to exploit different types of tourism in Senegal.Oman has a wide range of tourism projects and experiences, including the coast,the deserts and the culture."

Deme added that Senegal would also like toexamine how Oman developed infrastructure around its tourism projects,especially roads and food sectors.
