Public Transport Agency shares project practices with strategic partners
Roads & Transport Authority - Manal Khalid: The Public Transport Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) , stressed the importance of maintaining communicative links with its strategic partners in order to brief them on various projects undertaken by the Agency's Planning & Business Development Dep't; which is putting every effort to make public buses the first choice of mobility in Dubai.
A statement to this effect was made during the open gathering recently held at the Head Office of Public Transport Agency with several representatives of companies and entities dealing with the Agency in the presence of Public Transport Agency's CEO Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, Director of Planning & Business Development Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashimi, and representative of several strategic partners; namely Citi Bank, Emirates Airlines, University of Wollongong, and a host of companies engaged in school transport activities in Dubai Emirate.
At the outset of the gathering, Al Dosari welcomed the strategic partners of Public Transport Agency and praised the deeply rooted relationships between the two parties based on mutual cooperation in delivering the projects tendered by the Agency, including those related to public buses, public transport infrastructure and marine transit modes.
For his part the Director of Planning & Business Development Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashimi shed light on the Dep't; reviewing its Organizational Structure and various Sections as well as RTA Strategic Goals. He also highlighted the achievements made by the Dep't; which is also responsible for conducting studies, researches and policies, besides developing sound plans aiming to achieve sustainable & comprehensive development of public transport network, and capitalizing on the intelligent technology in leveraging multi-modal integration of public transport means in Dubai Emirate.
During the visual presentation, Al Hashimi referred to Public Bus Dep't as a key department in the Agency through which it seeks to entice a big chunk of the public to use buses mainly. In addition, discussions included the Public Transport Works Development Section, which is considered a major hub of the Agency's investment affairs through following up and managing the Agency's assets.
The presentation also showcased the key works entrusted to the Mobility Programs & Transportation Information Section by providing regularly updated information as demonstrated in offering "Wojhati" program to help the public better plan their journeys on various public transport means, and encouraging them to participate in "Sharekni" and "Awselni" initiatives which contribute to reducing the number of vehicles on roads and easing the traffic congestion. The presentation also highlighted the Scheduling Section which is entrusted with framing up a master plan for scheduling buses and integrating the planning data with both AVM and AFC Systems.
At the end of the gathering, discussions touched on the key projects to be undertaken by the Planning & Business Development Department in the current year 2011 including upgrading "Sharekni" portal, scheduling public buses routes, constructing a new bus terminal, and completing both the air-conditioned bus shelters, and Phase II of the Dedicated Bus Lanes projects.
