Arab League set new date for Arab foreign ministers meeting

By Sarah Ali Cairo - The representative of Iraq at the Arab League announced on Tuesday that the League decided to convene the Arab foreign ministers meeting on 8th of next month instead of 15 of the same month.

Dr. Qais Al-Azzawi told AKnews that "the postponement decision came from the summit to resolve Baghdad issue and the Secretary-General of the Arab League candidate.

"Iraq had demanded the meeting to be held on 5 of the next month, but at the request of a number of Arab countries as it was selected on 15 of May, but for the developments of the Arab situation it has been resubmitted to 8 of the next month."

"A number of issues and developments on the Arab arena will be discussed, including deciding the fate of the Arab summit which was scheduled to be held in Baghdad on 11 of the next month."

"Secretariat of the Arab League has circulated in a memorandum to the States Member representatives that (based on the proposal of the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and after further consultation it was agreed to hold the meeting on 8 next month."

A spokesman for the General Secretariat of the Arab League said yesterday that the Secretary-General of the Arab League is holding consultations with Arab foreign ministers to bring forward their meeting which was scheduled next month to take the necessary position about the serious crisis in Syria, Yemen, Libya and a number of Arab cities.
