Korean contractors eyeing 2022 projects in Qatar
The Korean delegation from big companies in their country have expressed confidence of striking contract deals based on their experience in building sports facilities and other infrastructure projects during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Seoul.
Some 23 executives from Korean companies in the field of design, engineering and construction led by Korean Trade Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) were here yesterday on a two-day visit for the Korea-Qatar Business Forum 2011 held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel which ends today.
"Qatar, the host nation for FIFA World Cup 2022, has become a hub of the Middle East with high economy growth rate, and it is believed that Qatari market will continue to grow rapidly and steadily at the forthcoming stage on a very stable base," Chang said.
He said most Korean companies which already had ongoing infrastructure contracts in the oil and gas companies and those with equity partnership on big real estate projects are starting to shift to getting a good share on contracts for the upcoming infrastructure projects of the World Cup.
At the forum yesterday, the Korean executives were briefed about future infrastructure plans with presentations from some of Qatar's major infrastructure companies, government organisations and banks including Masraf Al Rayan Bank, Kharamaa, and Qatar National Hotel Company.
The forum was organised by Kotra led by Executive Vice President Woo Kihoon in coordination with the Korean Embassy and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
