The Korean delegation from big companies in their country have expressed confidence of striking contract deals based on their experience in building sports facilities and other infrastructure projects during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Seoul.
Some 23 executives from Korean companies in the field of design, engineering and construction led by Korean Trade Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) were here yesterday on a two-day visit for the Korea-Qatar Business Forum 2011 held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel which ends today.
Korean Ambassador to Qatar Seejeong Chang said Korean companies have efficiently and timely implemented numerous infrastructure and construction projects needed for world sporting events based on their experience with the 1988 Korean Olympic Games and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Dong-Hwan Kang , Branch Manager of Daewoo Engineering and Construction based in Doha, said most of the Korean contracting firms are interested in building big stadiums and subways since they have already track record of building such infrastructure.
He said most Korean companies which already had ongoing infrastructure contracts in the oil and gas companies and those with equity partnership on big real estate projects are starting to shift to getting a good share on contracts for the upcoming infrastructure projects of the World Cup.
The forum was organised by Kotra led by Executive Vice President Woo Kihoon in coordination with the Korean Embassy and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
