Riyadh to host international health insurance conference

By Ghazanfar Ali Khan RIYADH: Saudi Arabia, where the medical insurance sector has emerged as one of the fastest growing insurance industries in relative global terms, will host the first international health insurance conference here on Monday.

A panel of leading international experts and local insurance leaders will participate in this two-day event to take stock of the current situation of the health insurance sector and to evaluate the future prospects of health insurance in Saudi Arabia.

"The participants in the conference will discuss and develop sustainable solutions for health care funding in the Kingdom while they exchange information to understand different patterns of health insurance in the world," said Dr Khaled Al-Mirghalani, spokesman of the Ministry of Health, which is organizing the event.

About 26 health insurance companies are currently operating in the Kingdom, and the number of Ministry of Health-approved health care providers exceeds 2,227 at the moment, Al-Mirghalani added.

"With the growing requirements of Saudi Arabia because of the growth in population and the increasing investments in medical sector, it is equally important to establish a robust health insurance system in the country," Al-Mighalani added.

Mohammed Al-Hussaini, deputy general manager of Riyadh Exhibitions Company ( REC ), said that the insurance conference would be organized at the Riyadh International Exhibition Centre.

Top international experts of medical insurance from the US, the UK, Canada, France and Germany will be among a host of other elite speakers at the conference, said Al-Hussaini. The discussions at the conference will also focus on the best practices adopted by different countries as well as recent developments in the global health insurance sector.

The exhibition will be organized by the REC to showcase the whole range of products and services including best practices and solutions from global insurance giants and expertise of the health insurance sector.
