QE steps will help boost US investors' confidence: Doha Bank
DOHA: As Qatar Exchange ( QE ) eyes an emerging market tag, inflows from the US are likely to increase here, says Doha Bank." QE aims to introduce delivery-versus-payment (DvP) which will enhance post-trade processing services and increase confidence for US investors," said a Doha Bank press statement yesterday. Bonds trading on the Qatari Exchange expected to begin this year will enable investors from the US to participate. This year QE will be connected to SFTI (Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure), a worldwide network which connects banks and brokers across the world to exchanges.
Bilateral trade between Qatar and the US has witnessed substantial growth with increase in trade volume from $3.2bn in 2008 to $3.62 last year. Total trade as of January this year is $0.22bn.
Last year, Qatar's export of LNG to the US constituted 11 percent of total US LNG imports.
Among the reasons why Qatar has been an attractive country for US companies are the country's stable currency, well capitalised financial institutions, and favourable industrial standards.
