Noor Dubai Foundation signs an MoU with Dubai Islamic Bank
DIB to support Noor Dubai’s outreach programs, which includes setting up mobile eye hospitals in countries of need.
United Arab Emirates, Dubai, March 29, 2011: Noor Dubai Foundation (NDF), a Dubai based NGO, active in prevention of avoidable causes of blindness and the Dubai Islamic Bank ( DIB ), signed today an MoU to support Noor Dubai in its outreach program, known as ‘Al Noor Convoy’.
The MoU was signed between His Excellency Nasser Al Budoor, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Noor Dubai Foundation and Mr Abdul Razzak Al Abdalla, CEO of DlB Foundation and member of the DIB group at the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development conference ( DIHAD) in Dubai, UAE.
Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of the Noor Dubai Foundation said, “The MoU with DIB is aimed to increase bilateral collaboration to support the ‘Al Noor Convoy”, which is an outreach program for the prevention of blindness. The program initiatives include organizing mobile eye hospitals in countries which are recognized as ‘countries of need’ by the World Health Organization to help prevent blindness.
Dr Taryam highlighted that the MoU reinforces the relationship between Noor Dubai, the only national NGO fully dedicated to blindness prevention, and DIB , one of the world’s first fully-fledged Islamic bank.
DIB is a pioneering institution which has combined the best of traditional Islamic values with technology and innovation. She added that DIB has characterized the best of modern banking by supporting the Al Noor Convoy program.
Mr. Abdul Razzak Al Abdalla, CEO of the DIB Foundation and member of the DIB group said, “We are blessed to have first-rate facilities and physicians with the means and ability to offer world class treatment. This is a blessing, which the people of Dubai wish to share with those in need across the world.
“This partnership, will enable the DIB Foundation to support NDF in its activities to benefit individuals worldwide by providing medical, surgical and preventive eye care in countries of need. We believe such outreach programs will help in the growth of the national economy in these countries and will help develop their national standards for health as well, especially since the program includes training of local physicians participating in the convoys,” said Al Abdalla
DIB Foundation will provide NDF with the funding required for conducting mobile eye camps, as well as sponsor joint healthcare activities and training programs in the UAE. “This is in accordance with our commitment to help developing nations and is consistent with World Health Organization principles for international prevention of blindness programs,” added Al Abdalla
Dr Taryam provided an overview of the Noor Dubai foundation and said that UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched this noble initiative on the 3rd of September 2008.
She added Noor Dubai’s collaboration with international partners promoted combating blindness and visual impairment globally. International and national organizations and establishments worldwide supported the noble initiative which helped in highlighting the alarming blindness and visual impairment statistics worldwide.
After the success of the Noor Dubai initiative; in October 2010, a decree was issued by the government of Dubai to establish it as a non- governmental, non-profit foundation, known as the Noor Dubai Foundation, to serve the same cause.
