EQUATE receives Responsible Care certification

Kuwait, March 29, 2011 -- EQUATE Petrochemical Company attained the Responsible Care (RC) 14001 certification and accreditation as the first company in Kuwait to earn such a prestigious international endorsement.

Commending EQUATE 's exemplary commitment to the care and safety of the Kuwaiti community, the auditors representing RC noted that EQUATE has "the best operational plant" they have ever visited.

On this occasion, EQUATE President & CEO Hamad Al-Terkait said, "We are very proud to be the first organization in Kuwait to receive RC 14001 certification and accreditation, as well as implement its principles, which is a world-class achievement. EQUATE will continue to lend its utmost support to our people, all persons within and outside Kuwait, our communities and the environment around us."

Al-Terkait noted, "As it is a voluntary initiative, EQUATE is implementing RC as part of its unwavering commitment to the care of the Kuwaiti community and beyond including each and every individual by manufacturing safe products, ensuring environmental protection in industrial operations and guaranteeing the overall wellbeing of all our surroundings."

Established in 1995, EQUATE is an international joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC) . Commencing production in 1997, EQUATE is the single operator of a fully integrated world-scale manufacturing facility producing over 5 million tons annually of high-quality petrochemical products which are marketed throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Responsible Care is a voluntary initiative of the global chemical industry to safely handle products from their inception in the research laboratory, through manufacture and distribution, to ultimate reuse, recycle and disposal, and to involve the public in its decision-making processes.
