51431 Air Traffic Movements in the UAE in February 2011
Dubai, United Arab Emirates -: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority ( GCAA ) announced that air traffic movements in the UAE grew at a rate of 7.6% in February 2011 compared to the same month last year. The GCAA monthly report indicated that total air traffic movements in February 2011 were 51431 with an average of 1837 air traffic movements per day.
GCAA 's Air Traffic monthly report for February 2011 showed the number of air traffic movements in each UAE airport. Dubai ranked first with 23459 air traffic movements. Over flights stood next at 10835 air traffic movements. Abu Dhabi ranked third with 7665 air traffic movements. According to the report, air traffic movements in Sharjah International Airport ranked fourth with 4850 movements. Local flights between UAE airports were in the fifth position with 3707 movements. Fujairah International Airport witnessed 348 movements, while Ras Al Khaimah International Airport had 282 air traffic movements and Al Ain Airport had 183 air traffic movements. Al Maktoum International Airport witnessed 102 shipping movements.
The report indicated that as far as air safety is concerned, GCAA completed 13 licensing transactions for aircraft maintenance companies, 8 aircraft registration certificate transactions and 37 airworthiness certificate transactions. Further, GCAA conducted 26 inspections and audits, and issued 16 simulator certificates. In terms of SAFA system 4 foreign aircrafts and one air operator were suspended, and for (ROSI) system 55 aviation incidents were reported.
As for crew licensing, GCAA issued 78 new crew licenses, renewed 112 licenses, issued 3 temporary permits, completed 81 type additions to licenses, issued 6 replacement licenses, and conducted 105 crew examinations, thereby bringing the number of crew licensing transactions in February 2011 to 416.
Regarding aeromedical activities, the report indicated that GCAA issued and renewed 1352 medical certificates in various qualified categories, appointed 8 medical committees, approved 2 decisions by medical committees, and carried out 62 transactions to return crew licenses. As such, Aeromedical related transactions in February 2011 stood at 1424.
Further, concerning air traffic controller transactions, the report showed that GCAA issued 2 new licenses, renewed 20 licenses, and completed 56 type additions to licenses. As for urgent service transactions, there were 644 crew transactions, 11 aeromedical transactions, 104 aircraft maintenance engineer transactions, and 9 aircraft crew card transactions. As such, urgent service transactions stood at 768.
In addition, the UAE initialed in February 2011 Air Transport Agreement with Djibouti and Albania, and signed memoranda of understanding with Djibouti, Albania and Algeria, and held consultations with Djibouti, Albania, Iraq and Bangladesh.
