Memac Ogilvy saves 105 trees
Hand in Hand with Resala
Cairo, Egypt, 14 March, 2011: Memac Ogilvy a multinational advertising and PR agency teamed up with non profit organization Resala to recycle all papers, newspapers and magazines used up by the agency. All the papers gathered will be sold to recycling companies and the money will be directed towards building hospitals, helping the poor and supporting orphanages.
Recycling is important to both environment and the economy because it results in a decrease in the amount tree consumption to generate more fresh papers; a cycle that has proved to be a burden on the economy of any country. Utilizing, local recycling facilities can directly have a positive effect by generating work opportunities
Tarek Lasheen, Public Relations Director Memac Ogilvy Egypt said "Corporate social responsibility is a main priority for Memac Ogilvy. Due to the nature of our work, we consume hefty amount of paper that are generated by old newspapers and magazines, presentations we print for work and other documentation. This is the minimum we can do to save the environment. We have also adapted a policy where by we print on both sides of the paper instead of just one or even use the back of the page for normal note taking."
"The amount collected mounted up to 275kg, knowing that each tree yields 2.6kg of A4 printing paper this means that Ogilvy helped save 105 trees by simply recycling the paper used rather than discarding it. There are 100s of agencies in Cairo, if one does a simple calculation on the amount of trees that can be saved in any given month, one will be amazed" Added Lasheen.
