EIB Deputy Chairman soon to visit Tunisia
The European Investment Bank announced in a communiqué released on Tuesday, that EIB Deputy Chairman, Mr. Philippe de Fontaine Vive, will pay a visit to Tunisia on March 2 to 3, 2011, to "listen to the Tunisians' views, evaluate opportunities for launching projects and discuss a broader commitment of the European partners in the country," .EIB stresses "the need for a co-ordinated action to deal with the current situation and developments. A rapid response is required to ensure a swift economic growth, increase job opportunities and favour a balanced social development."
In 2010, 2.6 billion euros were devoted to economic and social projects in Mediterranean countries, 498 million euros of which in Tunisia. In 2011, EIB is "ready to increase the volume of its loans to concretely meet Tunisian people's needs and assist them in the democratic transition process."
Operational since October 2002, FEMIP is today a key player in the economic and financial partnership between Europe and the Mediterranean, with over 12.6 billion euros to support the economic and social development projects in the nine Mediterranean partner countries.
